I grew up with James Keelaghan, and together with the other neighborhood kids, we often ran loose on hot summer nights. Our moms knew each other and often visited over tea. We started first grade together and went to same schools until graduation. We played and sang together for our Grade 9 graduation.
I kept track of James' successful career through his sister who I worked with for several years.
James' song relating to the Hillcrest Mine touched a nerve with me because of my great grandfather who travelled all the way from Italy to work in the mines of the Crowsnest Pass and was later killed inside a mine in Fernie.
His music is passionate and endearing. I hope you enjoyed it.
