Casa Braccio by F. Marion Crawford - A Scandalous Book

One of my all time favourite classic novels is Casa Braccio by F. Marion Crawford.  This book has everything to make it an ultimate read and a very, very scandalous book.  Forbidden love, unrequited love, passion, murder, vengeance, dark secrets, and plenty of emotion.  The setting takes place in Rome and a nearby village and the characters are one you will never forget.

I've lovingly recreated this classic novel and have included plenty of beautiful art and graphics to keep you interested and enjoying the book from start to finish.

This rendition includes the complete story - both Volume 1 and Volume 2!

Click Casa Braccio to download a free copy of this sinfully good Scandalous Book!

I'm strictly about words, but you definitely have a talent for the visual. So I'm glad you made the choices about the illustrations in this book!

I was born James Scott Crawford, first born son to Harold Francis (Marion) Crawford, he was the first born son to Howard Francis Marion-Crawford (British Character Actor), he was the grandson of F Marion-Crawford. I’d like to know how I can get a copy of any of his books as I am very interested in my family lineage.

Thank you for your comment. I couldn't find an email address for you, so I hope that you follow this comment and can see my response.

First, please know that I'm honored that you found the article and took the time to comment. F. Marion Crawford has to be one my most favourite authors of all time. I'm very excited to meet a descendent of such a fascinating, talented author.

I believe you can find original hardcopies of his books at on-line booksellers like Alibri or Ebay or on Amazon, but they may be a little expensive since they have become collector's items.

You can find almost all of his writings electronically at Project Guttenburg. Ebooks can be read on your laptop/computer, cell phones, or ereaders.

Also, some of his books have been recorded in audio format at Librivox.org.

I have been looking for a play of his entitled Paolo and Francesca or Francesca of Rimini which he wrote in French. Apparently the publisher MacMillan has some rights to it, but I'm not certain.

If you go to Google Books online, you may be able to bring up the first few pages of one of his books and see who the original publishers were. I believe most were in New York. Perhaps you can track something through them.

I hope I've helped and please keep me posted to any progress or if I can be of further help.

I did a brief bio of him - here's the link:

There is also a small foundation in Italy for him and his books, but I cannot remember the link. If you try to run his name on Google Italy and use the translation feature, you might be able to find it.

I wish you luck on your journey. It's very nice meeting you!

Thank you for such a quick response, thank you for the kind e-mail and the direction as to how to acquire some of this great literature. I’m not sure if you are interested, however, below you will find a link on our lineage. If you go to footnote 68 you will find my father mentioned, one of the six children mentioned is me, the others are my one older sister and four younger brothers. As you mind imagine, my father died when I was eleven, my sister was thirteen and my youngest brother was five. With that said, we didn’t know much about our heritage until recently…I for one am very proud! I will also include my e-mail if this is easier for you to keep in touch that is if you wish too. Take care, sincerely J. Scott Crawford

While searching for information on H. Marion Crawford, I discovered your wonderful site!

I am so deeply appreciative of the great talent of this amazing actor, and I longed to be able to express my appreciation to a living relative. It is a great blessing to know that James Scott Crawford is a direct descendant.

Thanks to your site, I now understand the creative genius that runs in the entire family.

H. Marion Crawford, through his sterling portrayal of Dr. Watson, lifted my heart! How fortunate were those who shared moments in time with this amazing actor. His vital and nuanced portrayal, full of humor and great humanity, make him the most memorable member of a great cast.

I wish I could have known him. I am greatful for his life and accomplishments.

I look forward to enjoying more accomplishments from this amazing family.

The play is titled "Francesca da Rimini" [1902]. Although Crawford [multi-lingual] could have written it in literary French, he commissioned Marcel Schwob to make the translation. In 1902 it was published in Paris. The play was written for Crawford's good friend M. Sarah Bernhardt and acted and produced by her. For copyright protection of the English text the U. S. branch of his main publishers, Macmillan, had ten copies printed in 1902, unpublished.
In 1980 the F. Marion Crawford Memorial Society published a facsimile edition with new editorial material, in a numbered edition limited to 200 copies. It can be found in some libraries. It is the only published edition of the English text.
The Italian organization is the Centro Studi e Ricerche Francis Marion Crawford at Sant'Agnello di Sorrento [where Crawford lies buried]. It is a local-history society with special attention given to Crawford's life and opera. They continue the work of the F. Marion Crawford Memorial Society [f. 1975].
The only book that provides a detailed guide to Crawford is "An F. Marion Crawford Companion" (1981) by John C. Moran. Much attention has come to Crawford since that essential book appeared, but no updated edition, that would discuss it, has been published.
